On December 23, 2006, 18-year-old Ryan Waller and his girlfriend, Heather Quan, were at their Phoenix, Arizona, home when a violent intrusion shattered their evening. Richie Carver, a former acquaintance, and his father, Larry Carver, forced their way into the residence. During the struggle, Richie shot Ryan twice in the head, leaving him critically injured, and then fatally shot Heather. The Carvers proceeded to steal valuables before fleeing the scene.
